I’m reading a lot of things these days, so here is an accounting of everything I’ve started and not yet finished thus far. I’m sure one of these days I’ll be doing some sort of challenge to finish plowing through all of these.
I’ve seen this book in stores a long time ago and I finally decided to buy a copy. Amazons: Lives and Legends of Warrior Women is a nonfiction book that traces the legends of the Amazons, as the subtitle suggests. I’m really enjoying it so far, but it is a long book so it might take me a while since I’m also reading a bunch of other books, mostly fiction, as you can see below.
My love of internet fandom has lead me to The Force Awakens novelization, which is currently in limbo since it feels too much like a frame by frame retread of the movie, which doesn’t translate very well in my opinion.
I absolutely LOVED the Wonder Woman movie. I’m currently trying to break into reading the comics, which has been very daunting. From research I’ve learned that a good run was when Gail Simone served as the writer so I’m currently reading Wonder Woman: the Circle.
The Kindle book with my current focus is the first book in the Sirantha Jax series, Grimspace. It is a science fiction adventure with sexy times that was read in the Vaginal Fantasy book club, whose exploits I sometimes follow along with in real time and sometimes I read the backlog. This is part of the backlog.
Arguably Girls Who Travel by Nicole Trilivas is the physical book that I am currently focusing most of my energy on. It’s a breezy read so I hope that I can finish it soon since my husband keeps wanting me to read some Terry Pratchett. Also it was part of that Book Outlet haul back in the day so it’s nice to be able to cross it off the list.
In terms of Regency Romance, my all time favorite author is Tessa Dare. After reading her latest release The Duchess Deal, I was OBSESSED. So I’ve been going back and reading her earlier works that I haven’t yet read. Currently I’m on the first book of her Spinster Cover series called A Night to Surrender.
The pirate-y romance that my husband and I were reading together is currently in limbo, but we are on book 2 now, so that’s pretty exciting. The Iron Rose follows the daughter of the characters of the first book who is now a ship captain and I am always here for strong women in power in olden times.
My current audiobook is A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas. Lady. Sherlock. Holmes. Enough said.
I’m also currently making my way through the Bloody Jack series by L. A. Meyer on audiobook. I did have this on loan from the library and it has lapsed so I’ll have to come back to this one. Probably during the summer when I’m in the mood for pirate-y things. I am now on book two, Curse of the Blue Tattoo. This summer has been making me want to read more and more about sailing and pirates and this is the perfect series to scratch that particular itch.
My pirate adventures are continuing with Pirate Heiress though I’m not enjoying this pirate-themed romance novel as much as I had hoped I would.
My husband and I are also listening to Nemesis Games by James S.A. Corey. While the first book started out slow but then quickly picked up speed, this one has been action-packed from the start, introducing lots of new characters to love. I can’t wait to finish listening to the series so that we can finally start watching the show based on the books.
Back in the day I was on a Gillian Flynn binge but that has ground to a halt with Dark Places. It’s not that the book wasn’t good, I think I was just tired of the dark dark dark. I will eventually come back to this.
The tour through books I’ve gotten, started reading, and then set aside continues with Mistborn: the Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. It’s not that the book was bad. I just was sort of in a reading slump when I picked it up and I couldn’t make my way through it. Since I’ve listed it here, I have every intention of picking it back up.
In my constant search for good romance to read, an online friend recommended Zoe Archer and her Blades of the Rose series so I went ahead and bought the bundle. I’m currently half way through Warrior, the first novel of the quartet. It’s got romance and adventure in Mongolia!
More romance! This time from Victoria Dahl, one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. Once again, I was on a binge reading marathon of all her books and came to a halt on Looking for Trouble, which is the first book in her Jackson: Girl’s Night Out series, which brings us back to Jackson Hole, Wyoming so some characters from her previous forays into the town do show up, which is nice.
My non fiction ventures include Packing for Mars by the amazing Mary Roach. I’ve been interested in space for as long as I can remember and while I may have set this one aside a while back, I’m really looking forward to finishing it.
I’m slowly but surely making my way through the Throne of Glass series and am currently on book four, Queen of Shadows. I got my copy of this book off of Book Outlet and it turned out to be a signed copy! Currently it’s on hold since I’m feeling a bit burnt out on the series.
